What is WhatsApp Direct?
WhatsApp Direct is a free web app that lets you start a WhatsApp chat with someone without adding their number to your phone's contacts. Normally WhatsApp only shows people who are already saved on your device. That's fine for friends and family, but a hassle when you just need to message a delivery driver, a seller on a marketplace, a customer or a one-time contact.
With this tool you select the country, type the number, optionally write a message, and tap Send. Your phone opens the WhatsApp app (or WhatsApp Web on a computer) straight into a chat with that person — no contact saved, no clutter in your address book.
How does it work?
The tool uses WhatsApp's official click-to-chat feature. Click-to-chat turns any phone number into a special link (wa.me/<number>). When that link is opened, WhatsApp automatically detects your device: on Android and iPhone it launches the app, on desktop it launches WhatsApp Web or the WhatsApp desktop app. If you added a message, it's pre-filled in the chat box so you only have to press send.
Tip: the generated link is shown below the button. You can copy it and reuse it later, or bookmark it for numbers you contact often.
How to use WhatsApp Direct
- Select the country of the recipient's phone number. The dial code is filled in automatically.
- Enter the phone number without the country code. Leave out any leading zero, spaces, brackets or dashes.
- Write a message (optional). Anything you type here appears pre-filled in the chat.
- Tap "Send message on WhatsApp". WhatsApp opens directly in a chat with that number.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install anything?
No. WhatsApp Direct is a web app that works in any browser. On Android you can add it to your home screen from the Chrome menu (three dots → "Add to Home screen") so it behaves like an app.
Why is the Send button greyed out?
The button stays disabled until you enter a phone number. As soon as you type a number it becomes active. Note that we cannot check whether the number is actually on WhatsApp — WhatsApp will tell you that when the chat opens.
Does it work on a PC or laptop?
Yes. On desktop the tool opens WhatsApp Web (or the WhatsApp desktop app if installed). On a phone it opens the WhatsApp app directly.
What happens if the number is not on WhatsApp?
WhatsApp shows a pop-up saying the phone number is not registered on WhatsApp. Double-check the country and the digits, then try again.
Is my phone number or message saved anywhere?
No. Everything happens inside your browser. We do not store, log or transmit the number or the message — the link is opened directly on WhatsApp.
